Volunteers
We invite you to join the many people who regularly volunteer their time to improve the quality of life for our residents at the Care Center. Our volunteers are an important part of our community, providing assistance to staff and enriching the lives of those we serve.
Placement and Training
To get started, volunteers meet with the volunteer coordinator to determine their skills and interests and select a meaningful assignment. Then, based on the project, appropriate staff members provide orientation and oversight.
Opportunities
There are many areas where volunteer help is needed:
- Activities – bingo, bowling, cards, crafts, sing-alongs
- Weekly coffee hour
- Monthly birthday party
- Special events and holidays
- One-on-one visits with residents, possibly with appropriate pet visitor
- Resident hair care
- Entertainment by individuals or groups
- Outdoor projects – tending flower beds, washing windows
- Running errands for residents
People volunteer with us for a variety of reasons. Many of our volunteers are family members of current or former residents. High school students often work with us to earn community service credit hours required for graduation. Even residents in our apartments offer to serve at our other facilities, passing on that feeling of family they have experienced here themselves. And, of course, volunteering is an excellent way to learn more about us by seeing our care and services for yourself.
For more information about becoming a volunteer, please call our volunteer coordinator at 586-285-7137 at the Nursing Home and 586-285-6212 at Assisted Living.
